Process of making graphics

First what i decide to do was to make the stencil for the silhouette of the heads side of a coin. the idea behind this was linked to the name of the group 'Heads or Tails' and i felt it fit well to include into the main graphic. it also works well to bring a simple, artist look to the logo as i feel that it would strange if the logo was over complicated, it link well with the music genre as other art with in the indie genre have quit simple logos

i then began to cut around the shape to leave just the image of the head on its own. i cut the head from an actual image of a coin so it was accurate. For this i used the polymer tool on Photoshop to meticulously cute around the shape. 

once i finished cutting around the shape i used the polymer tool and the lasso tol to smooth out the edges so that when i make it in to a silhouette it doesnt look to blocky. 


next i proceeded to turn the shape into a brush so i was able to print lots of the image onto my cover ideas. the brush tool also made it easy for me to convert the shape into a silhouette. in order to create the brush it was important for me to make sure i cut out the outside of the shape as i needed to make sure the whole inside of the shape was being printed.  

how i created the brush i had to select the shape in order to define the brush 

after i create the brush i tested out printing it onto my page. the image itself came our quite well however it was essential that i increased the opacity of the brush to give it a darker, deeper tone. the opacity of the brush was really lower initially which is why this print looked so light. however i did set out to experiment with different capacities and i felt the light ones didn't work as well.

so i began to darken the opacity setting to the darkest and it worked really well. it looks a lot bolder and makes the image look more effective. to see how the image would in a poster format i added some text make it stand out a bit better. i felt i worked well, although being quite simple i feel it has an element of boldness to it for that factor alone. and for our post i feel something like this would work well. for a poster (ours specifically) we dont feel like we wont it to out do the video itself but just to visually give a general artistic flare to the project. 

i then begin to brainstorm some ideas about the types of fonts i wanted to use for the poster and CD cover;

for this font 

this choice i wanted to focus on making the writing look more bolder so that it would stand out. the font also fit with the target audience. a lot of indie artists use quite bold font fro there promotional art.

i then went on to experiment using a more formal looking title. i felt that with the visual movement of our logo it wanted to somewhat keep a form (royal) theme with the logo. this type of font work well in conjunction to this theme as it is lean, and bold . 

this font i chose to fit into the indie theme as well as having a lot bold font in there work, it is also very common for indie artist to take a slightly artist approach with font and this handwriting font is very common especially with indie artist by like likes of Birdy

of place, all the other desgins have a

seems to look took over complicated.
i also dont think it was a good idea to abbreviate
the band name it people wont kno what the name is. the
crown image also makes the design look slightly
tacky. however what i do like about it is how

i have integrated the royal cypher into the design to link to the theme. 

for this design I looked more into replicating the format of a coin as a reference to the name of the band 'Heads or Tails'. in the design i kept mimicked the heads side of a coin. however i still kept the image of the silhouette of the queens head. for the out side of the design i replaced the writing on the coin with the name of the name of the band. for the font i sticked with a font similar to the one that is uses for the text on a coin face to maintain the theme. i think this design works really well because it is really bold and would act as a statement piece on our CD cover. its also not to over complicated with the graphic so it wont look out of place on the product material i.e. poster, cover art etc.

i then began to look a designing different font for our CD cover. for this design i didn't focus to much on the royal theme in the rest of my designs but i still added hints of it in. Again for the texts i went with a simple font but still quite bold but then i started to change around the lettering to give it a slightly distorted. i turned some letters upside down and flip them facing the other way to link to the band name as 'Head or Tails' refers back to front.   

for this font design i didn't feel to keen on the way it looked i felt that it looked to plain and didn't really stand out as an interesting logo. it looks to much like a childish font and i dont really think it would appeal to our audience much. 

to see if it would work on our CD cover I tested it out on a CD cover template.

Progression of Heads or Tails Music video.

Over the half term commencing the 15th February, Ellise and I went filming in a number of locations ranging from Victoria park to south bank.Here we collected a range of shots for our music video, echoing the friendship between the two girls and how the bound between them slowly tethers.
The shots included will be updated during the week but they consist of:

1)Establishing shot
2)Time lapse
3)360 degree angle shot
4)Mid-shot
5)close up
6)Point of view shot
7)Low shots

We faced some difficulties when filming over the half term due to wether conditions and unexpected external factors popping up, however the standard of communication maintained at a high level which is one of our strongest qualities within our group of two. Further more as a result of there only being two of us we have to try and organise our time equally and sufficiently. However, we still used our time wisely and got a lot of filming done, we still have some filming to do but these consist of only a few shots and so we can begin our editing stage.

Over the next five weeks the aim is to have a complete music video that has been successfully edited and of a high standard which includes making sure it appeals to our target audience and genre type which mirrors our original pitch from our pre-production stage. The next five weeks will consist of:

1)Editing
2)Evaluation
3)Final inspection

The Editorial stage will take the majority of the five weeks as that will be the process of making sure our music video is successful in all ways in order to achieve the highest grade possible. The evaluation and final processing stages will occur in the fourth/fifth week ending our term of college for the easter holidays as these are the final stages of our coursework and act as a conclusion. This will include not only being judged by our peers but also being self-critical, in doing this we will have to keep open minded and take on board any advice given to us which will also be re-interpreted onto the blog as a when it occurs.
